23 Things - Task 6 Picasa

This was much easier to start up with than Flickr as I already had a Google account. Love the look of the slide show, and will be using this to store family photos and share them around. Also like the security levels. You can lock out the general public from seeing your family photos and make them invitation only - essential if you are storing pictures of your children here.

I wouldn't use the community photos, though. Most pictures are of interest only to those directly involved, and I don't really get the motivation of anyone who wants to share their snaps with the whole world, especially if they are not especially good photos. I certainly lost interest pretty quickly when I started wading through the morass of badly centred snaps of bored looking people, unexplained pictures of plates of food, pictures of trees, flowers, cardboard boxes, items of clothing (no one wearing them - just a picture of a shoe, a shirt, a pair of pants), and plenty of things that are blurry and out of focus and you really can't tell what they are.

Had a hard time finding a picture I really wanted to blog about. However, Tibbles, the churchyard cat, got my attention.

23 Things Task 5 - Flickr

When coming to grips with Flickr, I remind myself of Homer Simpson repeatedly hitting himself of the head with something, going "OW!" and continuing to hit himself on the head because he fails connect the pain to his actions.

So I repeatedly found myself clicking the upoload button in Flickr, then, while watching nothing happen and my computer freeze, remembering that you can't upload onto Flickr using Firefox.

Once I remembered this tiny detail, uploading photos was a breeze, and I can see it being a really useful way of sharing photos, and a backup for family albums.

I am feeling a little brave now, so I'll go and try posting some photos to my blog.

23 Things Task 4

I have my blog registered now and now I guess I'll have to think of something scintillating to say on it.

This is the thing with blogs. Very democratic in that everyone has access and an arena to voice their thoughts, views or whatever, but it's possible for it to fill up with stuff that isn't really of interest to anyone.

I told my daughter I have a blog and she thinks I'm getting awfully high tech for a stodgy old mum.

Anyway, on to Flickr, and all the other fun stuff ...
